Betws y Coed and Snowdonia

Bythynnod Moel yr Iwrch Cottages are located on a smallholding in the hills above the bustling little village of Betws y Coed. Recently declared the official ‘Gateway to Snowdonia’, the village’s beautiful location among woods and riverbanks makes it a  popular tourist destination all year round. The village boasts an outstanding array of shops, from quality craft shops to outdoor gear specialists. It’s a village that never closes, even in the middle of winter.

A little closer to our farm is the picturesque village of Capel Garmon (1.8 miles away). The local village pub, The White Horse Inn / Tafarn Pen Llan, is open all year round from 5pm and serves good pub grub. We reckon it’s within walking distance from our cottages, especially if you take the more direct route along the public footpaths. The walk to the village is mostly downhill so of course the walk home will require a little more energy – an ideal way to work off your meal!

A short journey in any direction will take you to rugged mountain tops, big sandy beaches and some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK……..

Snowdonia offers the biggest, boldest mountains in Wales and England and is one of the most ancient and hauntingly beautiful areas in Europe. The recently awarded status of ‘Dark Sky Reserve’ adds to the appeal of the area, making it one of only three places in the Uk where you can experience an exceptional quality of starry nights.

For those looking for adventure the area offers a host of activities – climbing, pack raftingGorge Walking, Scrambling,  mountain biking, high ropes adventure – as well as some more relaxing activities like fishing and golf. This gem of an area offers many circular walking routes that take in magical hidden lakes, cascading waterfalls and serene riverbanks –

The area is quickly becoming a mecca for outdoor pursuits enthusiasts and ‘adrenaline junkies’ alike. Attractions like Zip World, Surf Snowdonia, GYG Karting, and Go Below are all within a 30 minute drive of Bythynnod Moel yr Iwrch Cottages. The Gwydir (AKA Marin)Penmachno and Coed y Brenin mountain bike trails are on our doorstep, offering some of the best mountain biking trails in Wales. For Downhill enthusiasts the Antur Stiniog Downhill and Freeride centre offers a challenging day out.

For a more leisurely day out there are numerous National Trust and Cadw properties including the world famous Bodnant Gardens.
